2001 - Original soundtrack de Alex North (1968)

Talvez o exemplo mais famoso de uma trilha sonora rejeitada é a que Alex North escreveu para 2001: Uma Odisséia no Espaço. North, que já havia trabalhado com o diretor Stanley Kubrick em Spartacus (1960), compôs a música para The Dawn of Man, a seqüência da estação espacial e a viagem para a base lunar. Depois de gravadas, Kubrick decidiu que nenhuma música sua seria mais necessária, e que se utilizaria de música clássica e o restante permaneceria sem música, utilizando somente efeitos sonoros. 

A nota escrita à mão pelo orquestrador Henry Brant diz: "Stanley odiou isso, mas eu gostei !"
